It's really disheartening that i've been burned so many times when i'm the buyer that i'm literally too 'afraid' (can't think of a better word) to commission anyone new at this point.

I've had my characters completely turn out not looking like themselves.
I've gotten lesser quality than what was paid for
And a few times I haven't gotten my commission -at all- and am just too fed up to report it to AB or bitch at them about it. (which is really bad i one of the first people to be like 'report their ass' cause people need to know....)

man much disappoint.....:/

I really would like art from people who's work I admire....but my trust in artists has just been way too worn at.

what sucks the most is....I know I'm not the only one that feels that way. and it really fucks me off that other artists don't think how their actions affect the art world...
every person that gets the run around slowly loses trust or interest in commissioning freelance artists...and that is lost business for the entire community.....

If you can't draw something? warn the person and let THEM decide if they'd like to continue working with you or not
If you take on work and get busy...UPDATE YOUR COMMISSIONER
Organize your shit
keep contact
these are YOUR responsibilities as artists TAKING MONEY(in whatever form it may be in)

But artists have means to protect themselves from getting screwed off. a commissioner generally does NOT(unless the commissioner makes a 'terms for being commissioned' and no lie that still comes off as popmus to me no matter how good the intentions). they are subject to their terms and conditions and HOPING they are decent and reliable people. that are true tot heir word and business ethic.
if you get jerked around as an artist 90% chance your TOS isn't well written or you don't have one at all. i know this because I -experienced- this. When I got my TOS together there was far less BS on the selling end for me.
but as a buyer. if some shit decides to run off with my money. and even with how paypal is and how long art CAN take there's a chance i just won't get the money.
and while NOW i do ask for wips.
another thing was being new to commissioning and not being aware that not all people offer wips (which....just..i still dont understand...on a wing-it? sure cool. on a standard commission? no check ins? really?)
I both sell and (used to) buy commissions. (not sure how people watching me aren't aware of that) so I see shit from both ends. and I still hold the artist -mostly- responsible.

You are one of my favorite artists here on DA and on Inkbunny, furrfinity, Facebook etc. I would love to do a free drawling of one of your characters of your choosing. Think of it as a gift from me to you for doing such amazing work.
